Retford FC to host Premier League Legends...

Retford FC are delighted to announce a prestigious pre-season game as they prepare for the 2024/25 season as a Manchester United XI are to visit the SL2 Rail Stadium on Saturday 22nd June 2024.*


The game will see the official opening of the new hospitality suite at the ground as supporters will get a first glimpse into the new building ahead of the new season.


Manchester United will be managed by former academy player and sports therapist at Old Trafford, Rod Thornley and the side will feature some of the most decorated players in Premier League history.


Confirmed to be attending are five time Premier League winner and current Republic of Ireland interim Manager John O’Shea, two-time Premier League and FA Cup winner David May and Wes Brown, with two Champions League and five Premier League medals.


They are expected to be joined by ex Reds Phil Bardsley, Keith Gillespie, Chris Eagles, Darren Fletcher and Danny Webber with more names to be announced closer to the time.


Retford Manager Chris Woodhead is excited at the prospect of such high profile players coming to Retford and playing at the SL2 Rail Stadium, “I never thought we would see such a game here in Retford. I’d like to thank Chris Sly for using his contacts in arranging the game which will be a memorable afternoon for everyone involved."


“The new hospitality suite is looking great and I can’t wait to finally be able to have it open for the game. We will of course be remembering our good friend Martin “Buster” Keeton as he was the main man in our hospitality over the years and this will be a nod to him and all he did for the club.”


“Not only will this be a great fundraiser for the club, it will also be great for the town as the draw of Manchester United will pull supporters in from all around and will give us a chance to showcase what we’ve been doing at the ground and the big changes that have taken place over the close season.”
