Jack Johnson Testimonial Match Announced

Retford FC are proud to announce a testimonial match in honour of Jack Johnson, after an outstanding spell of service to the club.

After 272 appearances in a Retford shirt, Jack’s testimonial will be a celebration of his loyalty and commitment to the club, bringing together current and former teammates, rivals and friends for what promises to be a great occasion.

The testimonial match will take place on Saturday 16th May 2026, with a 3:00pm kick-off, as a Retford FC XI face off against a Mattersey FC XI. With plenty of familiar faces set to feature on both sides, supporters can expect an entertaining and emotional occasion.

The Retford FC XI will be managed by Chris Woodhead, while the Mattersey FC XI will be led by a very familiar figure — Jack’s brother, Bobby Johnson, the current Gainsborough Trinity captain.

Jack’s journey with Retford FC began in unforgettable fashion. He made his debut on 19th April 2016, marking the occasion with a goal in a 4–0 victory over Askern FC. Over the past eight years, he has gone on to become a true legend for the club, showing his leadership and quality whenever called upon.

In total, Jack has found the net 48 times, contributing crucial goals across multiple campaigns, and played a key role in one of the club’s proudest moments — promotion to the NCEL in the 2018/19 season.

His influence on and off the pitch has made him a respected figure among teammates, management and supporters alike.

This testimonial match is an opportunity for everyone connected with Retford FC to come together and say thank you to a player who has given so much to the club. More details regarding squads and matchday arrangements will be announced in due course, but one thing is certain — Saturday 16th May 2026 is a date for every Retford FC supporter’s diary.

Join us as we celebrate the career of Jack Johnson — a true Retford FC servant with hopefully more to come from the midfielder in the future.
